Julian is about an hour and a half from my home in San Diego (which is close), but driving up the mountains seemed to take me to a whole different part of the world. Much different than the beach, Julian is set in the mountains above San Diego. It is surrounded by lush green hills and large oak and pine trees. The whole area reminded me of the hills of Northern California or even Colorado and Wyoming. The scenery is amazing, and the next time we go, we are definitely going to hike some of the trails in the area!
What’s even cooler is that a trip to Julian feels like a trip back in time. The town was originally a gold mining town way back when, but much of the city has a “home town” 1950’s feel to it. There’s a super cool Soda Fountain called Miner’s Diner (website) that serves THE MOST AMAZING milkshakes! Did I say they are AMAAAAAZING! 🙂
After the milkshake, I didn’t have room for the Apple Pie that Julian is well known for. In the fall, Julian gets swamped with people flocking to one of the many cool places that sell pies. It’s also a great place to take kids as there are hay rides and even spooky haunted orchards during Halloween. With my belly full, I was going to have to pass on the pie this trip. I was lucky that my Eliza J Check Cotton Poplin Shirtdress fit a little loosely around my waist. With a quick loosening of the included belt, I was given a quick accommodation for the milkshake deliciousness in my tummy. 🙂
With all the Candy Apples, Apple Pies, Delicious Milkshakes, and everything else, I’m thinking it might be pretty easy to get yourself in to a sugar coma here!
At any time of the year, you can see some very cool older cars along the streets of Julian. The winding roads are a blast to drive on, and cruising down the road in a piece of history must be an awesome experience!
As you can see, the Check Cotton Poplin Shirtdress has a slight “retro” look to it. However, the soft breathable cotton is incredibly comfortable. It has a great weight to it, which allows it to hold its shape while still maintaining comfort. I was so excited when I got this dress. I was looking for the perfect opportunity to give it a whirl. A short road trip filled with winding scenic roads, incredible milkshakes, sidewalks filled with history, and a quaint little town trapped in the past was just the place to give this dress a try. I strongly recommend that you pick one up. You won’t regret it (even if you have a 32 ounce strawberry cheesecake milkshake! 😉 )
