During Summer, we San Diegans often spend hot days at the beach. Here there are many beautiful beaches all along the coast, but if you are looking to spend a whole weekend at the beach, one of the best locations is Del Mar.
Del Mar is a cute little town in North County San Diego, off the 5 freeway. Along the main drag, Camino Del Mar, the hotels range from reasonable to expensive, from the Del Mar Inn to the L’Auberge resort. Start your day with a hike in Torrey Pines State Reserve, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean while you sweat. The Reserve is home to the rare Torrey pine tree and many hiking trails and viewpoints, so get ready to take some pictures!
Following your morning hike, brunch at The Brigantine is a must. The restaurant overlooks the Del Mar racetrack and the San Dieguito lagoon, and boasts a full oyster bar. Their award-winning fish taco is a must-try!
If you are up for the beach, walk down to Powerhouse Park, where there is also beach access. The landscaped, grassy park is perfect for picnics and also includes a play area for kids. If you are with your furry best friend, walk down to Dog Beach, where the locals bring their dogs for games of fetch.
For dinner, the options are many. If you are looking for dinner on the beach, Poseidon Restaurant is where you want to go. Request a table on the patio outside, and time your dinner for sunset. Jake’s Restaurant, Kitchen 1540, and Sbicca are all great for dinner as well.
